Luminarias del Pueblo

A Project of the Tucson Pima Arts Council

Cor Sanctum (Sacred Heart)
by Daniel Martin Diaz
Sponsor:
Nursing Consult
Nonprofit:
St. Elizabeth of Hungary

To me the Sacred Heart symbolizes deep love, desire, strength, and passion qualities and emotions that touch all of our lives. It is here that we all share a common bond, not only as members of a community, but also as members of the human race.

My hope is for Cor Sanctum to be both beautiful and inspirational as it illuminates the Tucson night sky. It incorporates the use of solar powered lighting fixtures to illuminate a large decorative Sacred Heart cutout design. In its design are many decorative cutout embellishments that enhance its beauty. In the daytime it will be equally as attractive as the brilliant desert sunlight beams through the decorative cutout designs and as passersby glimpse it's timeless natural rusted metal façade constructed of a sturdy weather resistant metal design they will be drawn to its detail and intricacies.

The base is designed to be sturdy, yet delicately attractive. It can be admired by daylight, yet disappears as night falls, giving the illusion of a floating Sacred Heart. If my design is chosen for the project, I will look forward to working directly with a sponsor in a collaborative manner, as well as, incorporating the solar energy system provided by the project sponsor Tucson Electric Power.
