The image depicted is a free-standing entrance way sculpture entitled "Saturday Afternoon". It will be 7'1" high and 6'0" wide. The entrance will measure 6'5" high and 4'0" wide. The medium is steel and Dalle de Verre glass (inch thick slab glass in blue, purple, orange, yellow and clear). The columns rising will be 12' square steel panels with glass in the center of the entrance. The joining column will be made of 12" x 8" steel with glass underneath the entrance way. The entire structure will be lit internally using solar lighting. The 10 watt solar panel will be on top of the sculpture, hidden from view, but exposed to full sun light.
The structure itself is entirely durable outdoors. The glass is one inch thick set into the steel with epoxy made for this type of glass. It is virtually unbreakable unless intentionally vandalized. All three components -- two columns and the joining top -- art steel with a sealed rusted finish. The pieces bolt together and can come apart for transportation. The structure itself bolts into two flat steel base components, which can be bolted to the ground.
When the sculpture is in place and lit up, the entirety of the inside of the entrance way will be illuminated glass, giving the viewer a desire to go through. It is a free-standing entrance, mysterious, and used for no other reason than to pass through, reflect and enjoy the illumination of colored glass. The sculpture is interactive with the intention of capturing the human fascination with portals into the unknown.
