This piece is part of the "anatomy series," is the fifth "neuron lamp," that represents a figurative brain cell.
Entirely made out of 316 and 304 stainless steel sheet, tubing and stock, it has three main aspects, shade, stem, and base.
The Shade, that represents the perikarion (cell body) is a concave body made out of 5 triangular pieces of stainless steel sheet, 25 inches in diameter , 5 " to 7" in depth. The center has an opening ,4" diameter, where a concave glass is set, to let the light glow through. The body has 5 extensions representing the dendrites, each ending in a triangular shape where a piece of plexiglass is set. Light will shine through these extensions.
The stem, represents the axon, composed by a central round tube (where the lamp cord runs through), sorrounded by a number of half tubes bigger in diameter .The end of the tube branches into rods that end in scrolls, like branches of a tree. This part is attached to a ¼ inch plate with holes to bolt down the entire lamp.
The wattage of light bulb is 25 watts, 12 volt to allow for either 110 volt or solar power.
