PATINA -- A traditional red velvet rust will be applied, providing a base for the natural oxidation that will occur. The Milagros will be a silver metal coloration, bringing to mind the symbols' traditional finish. The base will be a shade darker than the sculpture, and the entire piece will be protected by a clear coating.
SCULPTURE CONCEPT -- This concept is very similar to creating a traditional luminaria, except that instead of circular punched out light holes, we will use stylized Milagros. Obviously, the container cannot be the traditional paper bag. In it's place, we will create an ecliptic steel form whose indented sides are reminiscent of the paper bag.
The Milagros will be fashioned in a variety of techniques. They may be backed with mesh, glass or acrylic. They may be cut out, raised up or attached with standoffs. This variety of techniques will add to the interest of the luminaria.
The Luminaria will be placed on a pedestal to elevate and protect it.
PLEASE NOTE: Each of the four sides of the “bag” will have a variety of Milagros. The drawing submitted is a concept of only one side.
LIGHTING CONCEPT -- The solar light that will make the Milagros even more dimensional and dynamic offsets the detail you can appreciate during daylight. The solar panel will be placed on the top of the sculpture, horizontally.
SIZE -- 7.5' x 3'
MATERIALS -- Steel, Glass and Acrylic
